The Podilymbus gigas, is a bird also known as the Atitlán grebe and giant grebe. The species habitat was in Lake Atitlán, in Guatemala, and because of the pollution of the lake, the Podilymbus gigas is now extinct. The lake is not clean and pasteurized. The bird was declared extinct in 2004 it was advised of BirdLife International. Today lake Atitán is full of massive swirls of blue- green algae, and it stinks. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the bird is extinct.
